the University
The University of Western Sydney is
a dynamic, rapidly growing university located in Sydney, the city
that is pre eminent business centre and tourist destination of the
southern hemisphere. With six campuses and over 30,000 students,
including more than 3,000 from overseas, UWS is the eighth largest
university in Australia. UWS has a reputation for academic excellence.
All courses offered by the University are fully accredited by the
Australian Government and are recognized internationally by other
higher education institutions. The university currently offers a
range of internationally recognized degree and diploma courses in
more than 100 course areas. The international outlook of the university
has resulted in a network of business and professional connections.
This network is continually growing; facilitated by postgraduate
student exchanges, scholarships, post doctoral fellowships and established
international collaborations with a variety of research groups,
centres and departments.
Programs
of Study
The University of Western Sydney offers degree courses both at
Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Besides the Bachelors and
Masters degrees, UWS also offers Research programs in different
fields. Students can undertake research in their choice of course.
The University also offers a range of programs offshore with internationally
focused subjects, based on the country of offer. These programs
are supported by UWS in collaboration with other offshore partners
such as Malaysia, China, Jordan, Singapore, UK and Sri Lanka.
Main
Campuses
The University of Western Sydney has six beautiful campuses each of
them at:
Situated in Milperra, the Bankstown campus is just 30 minutes drive
from Sydney. Students can choose from courses in Social Science, Psychology,
Social Work, Policing, Arts, Aviation Studies, Education and Applied
Science. A world-class Fine Arts Resource Centre is located on the
campus, which contains superb visual arts facilities, and a gallery
space for displaying student works. The campus also houses a Digital
Imaging Centre, with high-tech equipment.
The Blacktown campus is located in the North Western Sydney and
forms part of the Nirimba Education Precinct, which is also home
to a TAFE college and Catholic and State Senior High schools. Students
at the Blacktown campus can study Commerce, Building, Environmental
Planning and Arts. The campus is supported by the Fred Hollows College,
which not only provides residential accommodation for students but
also seeks to enrich their academic, social, and sporting lives.
The Blacktown campus is also the site of partnerships with business
and industry. The Property Research Centre conducts research for
industry and government bodies in the areas of Valuation,Finance,
Market Analysis, Property Law and Urban Planning.
The Campbelltown campus offers courses in Commerce, Design, Health
and Nursing, Applied Science and Law. The students at Campbelltown
have access to high-tech teaching facilities and equipment. Law
students can hone their skills in the Moot Court located on campus.
On-campus accommodation is also available on Campbelltown campus,
providing students with the opportunity to combine the convenience
of living close to their place of study with the experience of living
and socializing with students from around Australia and the world.
Hawkesbury is the oldest campus of the University of Western Sydney,
with over 100 years of continuous achievement in education. Located
at Richmond, the Hawkesbury campus is in the Hawkesbury Valley at
the base of the scenic Blue Mountains. It offers students a choice
of courses in Horticultural Science; Agriculture; Landscape Management
and Conservation; Applied Science and Food Technology; Nursing;
Humanities; and Tourism. The Hawkesbury campus has two colleges
- Charlton College and Hawkesbury College - which provide accommodation
for students.
The University of Western Sydney's new Parramatta campus on the
corner of James Ruse Drive and Victoria Road was officially opened
in August 1998. Courses offered at Parramatta include Law; Business;
Health and Nursing; Critical Psychology; Biological Sciences; Computing
and Information Technology. Facilities offered to the students are
as a library, Students' Union and a purpose built 1000-seat auditorium,
which is used for UWS graduation ceremonies.
The Penrith campus has sites at Kingwood and Werrington and offers
students courses in Contemporary Arts, Design, Education, Business,
Science, Engineering, Arts and Humanities, and Astronomy. Penrith
is home to state-of-the-art teaching facilities such as the Astronomy
Centre, which houses the largest campus telescope in Australia,
and the Mechatronics facility, which provides training, education
and research opportunities to the engineering students. The Penrith
campus also has the brand new Centre for Contemporary Performance
at Werrington South.
Fields of Study
The University offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees

Owned by UWS and the Australian Centre for Languages (ACL), Sydney
West International College is a pathway for students wanting to
further their tertiary education. SWIC is located on the SWIC campus
of the UWS at Westmead, in a diverse and cosmopolitan region of
Sydney, which is home to a rich multicultural population. SWIC is
a modern and dynamic educational institution providing high quality
programs in an environment that encourages students to achieve excellence
in their studies. The UWS is represented on the Academic Advisory
Committee of SWIC and fully endorses the study programmes at SWIC.
The association between UWS and SWIC ensures that students study
in an environment which promotes the highest possible standards
and which prepares students for the transition to undergraduate
study. SWIC enables students who do not meet the entry requirements
for direct entry into a chosen level of study, to gain an alternative
pathway to university with advanced standing status. SWIC provides
courses in the areas of Business, Computing Science and Arts. The
duration of these courses varies from 8 months to 16 months The
