La Trobe was the third university established in Victoria, in the South-East of Australia. It has grown to accommodate more than 15,000 students at its Bundoora campus and over 7,000 at campuses in Albury-Wodonga, Beechworth, Bendigo, Mildura, Mount Buller Melbourne City and Shepparton.

La Trobe University is named after Charles Joseph La Trobe. Charles La Trobe was the first Superintendent of the Port Phillip District from 1839 to 1850 and first Lieutenant Governor of the new colony of Victoria from 1851 to 1854.
