About the University
Named in the honour of Edith Dircksey Cowan, the first woman elected
to an Australian Parliament in 1912, Edith Cowan University in Perth,
Western Australia is a modern educational institution noted for
its vigorous and innovative course content, specialized research
and creative pursuits.
The year 2001 marked Edith Cowan University's tenth anniversary
as a University and 2002 marks its 100th year as an educational
institution in Western Australia. ECU is one of the larger universities,
with over 20,000 students in total. Each year, an average of 4,000
students graduate with many entering professional careers in Australia
or internationally, or continuing with further studies. The University
offers over 290 award programmes, and 1,600 staff members provide
a challenging and supportive environment for teaching and learning.

Main
Campuses
The University has four beautiful campuses each at Churchlands,
Joondalup, Mount Lawley and South West campus at Bunbury.
- Churchlands Campus
The Churchlands campus is situated in a lovely bushland setting
in Perth; 15 minutes from the city centre and close to Perth's
spectacular coastline. A wide range of courses is offered including
Nursing, which is conducted from one of Perth's most modern purpose-built
health and science facilities. ECU's administration centre is
also located on the Churchlands campus.
- Joondalup Campus
Located in Perth's fastest growing metropolitan sector, the Joondalup
campus is part of a major educational precinct, which includes
the West Coast College of TAFE and the recently relocated Police
Academy.
Students enjoy the benefits of a modern, purpose built tertiary
campus with extensive state-of-the-art facilities including a
multi-million dollar recreation centre. Residential accommodation
is available and the campus is situated adjacent to fast rail
transport.
- South West Campus (Bunbury)
Located 200 kilometers south of Perth, ECU's South West campus
(Bunbury) is the only university campus situated in the state's
southwest.
Bunbury is West Australia's second largest city and is a significant
Western Australian seaport. It is also the gateway to the southwest
region, a region that boasts growing industries such as viticulture,
forestry, tourism, gourmet food production and arts.
With a unique country atmosphere, the South West campus features
modern facilities, small class sizes and offers a comprehensive
range of courses. Student accommodation is available.
- Mount Lawley Campus
Mount Lawley is located minutes from the city of Perth and abounds
with shops, cafes, restaurants, and hotels. This cosmopolitan
suburb is a vibrant residential area and is well served by public
transport.
The campus has excellent study facilities, extensive teaching
resources and residential accommodation is available for students.
ECU's Mount Lawley campus is the home of the Western Australian
Academy of Performing Arts, one of the most exciting and successful
arts training institutions in Australia. The Academy's mission
is to provide an opportunity for highly talented individuals to
prepare for professional careers in the performing and visual
arts disciplines.
Centres
and Regional Areas
ECU offers selected programmes at a number of metropolitan
and regional centres. These programmes are designed to meet the
special and local needs of the area.
Such centres can be found in Broome, Albany, Geraldton, Katanning
and at the Swan Tertiary Education Centre in Midland.

ECU is represented on the Academic Board of PIBT and fully endorses
the study programmes at PIBT. The association between ECU and PIBT
is designed to offer students who do not meet the entry requirements
for direct entry into a chosen level of study, to gain an alternative
pathway to university with advanced standing status. PIBT provides
courses in the areas of business studies, information technology,
computer science, mass communication and engineering to both local
and international students. The duration of these courses varies
from 6 months to 16 months.
