About Deakin University

Deakin University is one of the Australia's most progressive and visionary universities. University of the Year

Deakin University is Australia's first university to be named University of the Year for a second time. It is a testimony of Deakin University's status as a first-class leader in education.

Deakin is very proud to be named Australian University of the Year - for the second time. Deakin was first named University of the Year by the Good Universities Guide in 1995 for its 'use of technology in teaching and learning', and in the same year the Federal Government's Quality Assurance Committee for Teaching and Learning ranked Deakin in the top tier of Australian universities.

In 1999/2000 Deakin has been named joint winner of the University of the Year award for 'outstanding partnerships and training'. It is the first time in the history of the award that a university has won the title twice. The awards reflect the academic skills, corporate expertise and commitment to innovative education that exist at Deakin and its role as the largest provider of professional education in Australia.

Main Campuses

Deakin University is a large and diverse institution with six campuses - Melbourne (formerly Burwood), Rusden and Toorak in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, two campuses in Geelong and one in Warrnambool in regional Victoria. Each campus has a distinctive character and a strong presence in its local community. There is a personal and friendly study environment at each campus that enables close contact with academic staff and between fellow students.

  • Melbourne

    This campus offers courses in commerce, law, nursing, teacher education, disability studies, park management and sports science. A campus redevelopment program currently underway has seen a new complex of modern education buildings, refurbishment of older buildings and the creation of a large landscaped central courtyard.

  • Rusden

    This campus offers courses in computing, environmental management, conservation ecology, biological science, media and performing arts.

  • Toorak

    It houses Deakin International, Stonington Theatre, and the new Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology which provides courses in the areas of business and computing to international students.

  • Geelong

    At this campus, undergraduate degrees are available in arts, commerce, education, journalism, engineering, law, police studies, science, computer science and social work.

  • Geelong Waterfront

    It is Deakin's newest campus located on the foreshore of Corio Bay, in the central business district of Geelong. Originally built in 1893, the buildings have been extensively renovated to create a modern and impressive sixth campus. The School of Architecture and Building, and School of Nursing are located at this campus.
  • Warrnambool

    This campus has strengths in marine and freshwater science, fisheries management and aquaculture, visual arts, communication studies (including eco-communication), business, commerce and nursing.

Faculties of Study

There are five faculties of study available at Deakin University, which offer courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A few of them are as under:

Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE is located in Melbourne, the capital city of the State of Victoria. It offers high quality Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses to international students. The Institute offers degree transfer programs in conjunction with Deakin University.

Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE is home to the Aerospace Industry Training Centre (AITC) and the Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE).

Campuses

Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE has five campuses that host more than 24,000 students from all around the globe. These campuses are located at:

  • Richmond

    It is located 3 Km from the CBD and houses automotive and recreation programs. On this campus, numerous automotive workshops are located for students to gain practical experience.

  • Moreland

    It is located approximately 8 Km from the CBD and well serviced by public transport. Nursing and some community development programs are conducted at this campus.

  • Broadmeadows

    It is the main campus of the Institute, located approximately 20 Km from the CBD. A wide range of courses are offered at this campus including Business, e-Commerce, Information Technology, Fashion Design, Electronics and Tourism. It is also the location of purpose built training centres for aerospace engineering, Polymer Engineering and Hospitality.

  • Essendon

    This campus is located approximately 10 Km from the CBD. It offers Public Relations and Advertising courses.

  • Coburg

    This campus is located approximately 12 Km from the CBD. It offers a wide range of Automotive courses. Facilities include purpose built training workshops.

MIBT is located at Deakin University's Toorak Campus in Melbourne. MIBT enables students who do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry into a chosen level of study, to gain an alternative pathway to university with advanced standing status. MIBT provides courses in the areas of Commerce, Computing and Mass Communication. The duration of these courses varies from 8 months to 12 months
